Delivery Charges
The delivery charges reflected on your gas bill are Nicor's costs to operate and distribute gas to you. These charges make up about 15 to 20 percent of your gas bill over one year. The Illinois Commerce Commission approves these rates. Nicor Gas customers pay the lowest distribution charges of any Illinois utility.
Monthly Customer Charge:
This is a minimum charge and is the same each month - even if you do not use natural gas that month.
Therm Usage/Distribution Charges:
These charges cover our fixed and variable operating and distribution costs. Based on the amount of natural gas you use, a portion of these charges may vary monthly. Also, price variations take place at certain levels of therm usage.
Environmental Recovery Cost:
This charge covers our costs for the environmental monitoring and possible clean-up of former manufactured gas plants in our service territory. This charge changes periodically, and Nicor Gas does not profit from these charges.
Franchise Cost
Covers our cost for municipal franchise agreements. Nicor Gas does not profit from this charge.
Governmental Agency Adjustment
This adjustment covers governmental fees and added costs, excluding franchise costs. This cost changes periodically, and Nicor Gas does not profit from these adjustments.
