Nicor Gas employees receive MBEIC awards

For the second consecutive year, the Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC) of the Chicago Minority Business Development Council (CMBDC) has recognized members of the Nicor Gas Procurement Department. Senior Supplier Diversity Administrator Dave Thomas received the Anders C. Rasmussen Jr. Award as Supplier Diversity Manager of the Year, and Purchasing Specialist Kathleen Maxwell received a Buyer of the Year Award in a ceremony held at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago on April 14.

The Rasmussen Award recognizes a supplier diversity program manager who has served as a catalyst for minority business opportunities within his company.

The Buyer Award was given to Maxwell and ten other buying professionals who made significant contributions to their corporation's supplier diversity initiatives.

Both Thomas and Maxwell were nominated by a committee of minority business owners and corporate diversity and buying professionals. In his acceptance speech, Thomas credited the executive leadership of Nicor Gas and the caliber of minority businesses that Nicor Gas works with for his award.

The awards ceremony kicked off the CMBDC's 41st Annual Chicago Business Opportunity Fair, which featured seminars for minority businesses, a black tie gala, and one of the country's oldest and largest minority business opportunity fairs.
