Naperville, IL – Nicor Gas will participate in 55 Fire Department Open Houses across its service territory to educate the public on natural gas safety. The program will run through October 26 with the majority of open houses to take place during National Fire Prevention Week (October 5 – 11).
"We value our partnership with local fire departments which allows us to promote the shared goal of ensuring safe communities. These open houses provide an entertaining and informative experience for adults and children to learn about natural gas safety," said Margi Schiemann, Director of Community Relations for Nicor Gas.
The Fire Department Open Houses are fun family-friendly events which are held to inform the community members about home safety measures that can help prevent fires. At each of the 55 locations, Nicor Gas will display a colorful tabletop exhibit of a family home with callouts to key natural gas safety tips. To help showcase the importance of replacing brass appliance connectors, the exhibit will also feature samples for guests to examine of "correct" and "incorrect" appliance connectors.
Opportunities to win prizes are available at each location for both adults and children. Each fire house will raffle 12 carbon monoxide detectors and to engage the younger audience, Nicor Gas representatives will conduct a drawing and award an individual winner with a Lego® Fire Station (includes multi-room fire station, two firefighting vehicles, and four fire fighters). To enter the Lego set prize drawing, participants just need to answer a few simple but important questions about natural gas safety.
As part of the company's commitment to safety, nearly 100 Nicor Gas "Employee Ambassadors" have volunteered to participate in the open houses and will be on hand to staff the Nicor Gas exhibit and impart important safety information to customers. "Our employees are dedicated to the well-being of the communities where they work and live. Their commitment enables us to participate in multiple Fire Department Open Houses throughout our service territory and provide thousands of households with important information that can help keep their families safe," said Schiemann.
