September 15, 2008 Naperville, IL – The Nicor Gas Reconnect Assistance program will end on Friday, September 19. Residential customers whose natural gas service was disconnected earlier this year because of non-payment of bills have five days left to have their service restored through the Reconnect Assistance program for only 50 percent of their outstanding balance.
The program, Reconnect Assistance, began on Monday, September 8 and will run through Friday, September 19. While all customers disconnected for non-payment are eligible to participate, Nicor’s Reconnect Assistance program is intended for those who are ineligible for other connection incentive programs or may prefer extend payment arrangements. Eligible participants, whose past due balance does not exceed $3,000, can have their service re-connected by paying 50 percent of their outstanding balance. Payment of the remaining balance would be made in installments over the following nine months.
Nicor Gas developed this program in response to the high number of disconnections this past year due to the effects on family budgets of challenging economic times and increased natural gas costs.
“With only one week left of the Reconnect Assistance program, we are urging every eligible customer to call, make arrangements, and get re-connected before the start of the 2008-2009 heating season,” said Kevin Kirby, Vice President of Customer Care Nicor Gas.
Without the use of this program, natural gas customers who have been disconnected for non-payment are currently required to pay their outstanding bill in full before service is restored.
