Naperville, IL – Reconnect Assistance, Nicor Gas' limited-time residential reconnection program, will end this Friday on September 18th. Residential customers whose natural gas service was disconnected because of non-payment of bills have five days left to have their service restored through Reconnect Assistance, for only 50 percent of their outstanding balance.
The Reconnect Assistance program began on September 1st and will run through Friday, September 18th. Since its launch date more than 2,200 eligible participants have been able to take advantage of the program which allows them to reconnect their service by paying 50 percent of their outstanding balance and paying the remainder of their debt through installments over the following 12 months. Nicor Gas developed the program in response to the increased number of disconnections over the past two years that are due to these challenging economic times affecting family budgets. Without Reconnect Assistance, customers who have been disconnected for non-payment are required to pay their outstanding bill in full before service is restored.
"This program provides an opportunity to customers who otherwise could not afford to get their service restored by having to pay their outstanding balance in full. With only one week left to participate in Reconnect Assistance and the winter weather fast approaching, we encourage every customer who can participate to call and schedule their service restoration before the start of the heating season," said Kevin Kirby, Vice President of Customer Care Nicor Gas.
While all residential customers disconnected for non-payment are eligible to participate, Nicor's Reconnect Assistance is intended for those who are ineligible for other reconnection incentive programs or who may prefer extended payment arrangements.
