August 31, 2009 Naperville, IL – Nicor Gas announced today a limited-time residential program called Reconnect Assistance to help customers who have had their natural gas service disconnected because of non-payment of bills to get re-connected in time for the 2009-2010 home heating season. The Reconnect Assistance program will only be available for a limited time beginning tomorrow September 1st through the 18th.
The program allows disconnected residential customers to reconnect their service by paying 50 percent of their outstanding balance. Payment of the remaining balance would be made in installments over the following 12 months. Nicor Gas developed the program in response to the increased number of disconnections over the past two years that are due to these challenging economic times affecting family budgets. Without Reconnect Assistance, customers who have been disconnected for non-payment are required to pay their outstanding bill in full before service is restored.
“Some of our customers, much like many across the nation, are experiencing a difficult time trying to make ends meet each month. This program can help provide some relief to customers as it allows them to get their service back on line for a percentage of their outstanding balance instead of the entire amount at one time. With this in mind, Nicor Gas is hoping that qualifying customers will take advantage of our Reconnect Assistance to restore their service before cold weather arrives,” said Kevin Kirby, Vice President of Customer Care Nicor Gas.
While all residential customers disconnected for non-payment are eligible to participate, Nicor’s Reconnect Assistance is intended for those who are ineligible for other re-connection incentive programs or who may prefer extended payment arrangements. To sign-up for Nicor Gas’ early Reconnect Assistance program, call 1-877-444-2947.
