Nicor Gas Customers Will Soon Receive New Billing Statement

New Bill Format Has Enhanced Features and is Easier to Read

Naperville, IL – Today Nicor Gas announced that they will begin mailing out a new and improved billing statement in September 2008. The new statement contains a number of enhanced features and its format has changed, making it easier for customers to read and locate pertinent billing information. Beginning in August, Nicor Gas customers will receive an insert, within their monthly statement, containing information about the new bill.

“It has been 10 years since our last bill redesign and we decided that it was time to refresh the look while implementing features that make the bill more customer friendly. After conducting research, which included customer focus groups, we made changes that are intended to help customers better assess their natural gas use and assist them in making wise energy choices,” said Kevin Kirby, Vice President of Customer Care for Nicor Gas.

The new, easier-to-read bill format includes:

  • Expanded Energy Profile with 13-month summary of gas costs and monthly average temperatures to help customers track their natural gas usage throughout the year
  • Prominently featured Account Summary to help customers quickly locate their balance information
  • Easier-to-read outline of charges making it simple for customers to identify billing costs
  • Special message section, with individualized messages pertaining to customers’ accounts
  • Added options to donate to the Nicor Sharing program to help families in need stay warm during the cold winter months
  • Easy Budget Plan sign-up section to help customers spread out payments and make it easier to manage winter heating costs

Additional enhancements are:

  • Paper Size: The larger paper (letter sized - 8 ½” X 11”), will allow for billing information to be included on one page rather than two, in most cases. 
  • Larger Font: The larger font makes it easier for customers to read.
  • Boxed-in sections: These boxed sections make it easier for customers to locate information.
  • Expanded Information on the back of the bill: Information has been clarified and enhanced, including more details on:
    • How to read your meter
    • What are "additional products and services"?
    • What are these Budget Plan amounts?
    • How do I read the new Energy Profile? 

“Customers who wish to save time while being more environmentally conscious can sign up for CheckFree. CheckFree is a free service that allows customers to go paperless by no longer receiving a paper bill. Customers can view an electronic version of their bill online and conveniently pay directly from their bank account,” said Kirby.
