Naperville, IL – Nicor is proud to herald the return of Super Reader and the Adventures in Reading with Nicor program. On Wednesday, May 13, 2009 Cicero West Elementary School at 9 a.m. pre-K to 3rd grade students will be visited by Nicor's costumed super hero – Super Reader – who will kick-off the program at three different assemblies where he will personally congratulate the students for becoming "super readers."
Assembly times: Assembly 1: 9:00-9:45 a.m. Pre-Kindergarten, kindergarten and 1st grade Assembly 2: 10:00-10:45 a.m. 2nd and 3rd grade Assembly 3: 1:00-1:45 p.m. Pre-Kindergarten and kindergarten
During this school year, Cicero West students' have put their "super reader" skills to work and have read approximately 33,000 books. Adventures in Reading with Nicor launched in 2006 and since the program's inception, participating schools' students have read more than 120,000 books.
By participating in the Adventures in Reading with Nicor program, Cicero West students, parents, and faculty receive: free books to students and their parents, professional development training for teachers, special coaching sessions for parents, motivational prizes and activities, and volunteers - Nicor employees - to read to the children and help facilitate the program activities.
