NAPERVILLE – Nicor Gas today announced its partnership with Jewel-Osco to help customers in need stay warm this winter. By shopping at Jewel-Osco stores in December on dates listed below, customers can help keep families warm this heating season. By simply submitting the Shop & Share coupon at the time of purchase Jewel-Osco will donate five percent of the purchase to the Nicor Gas Sharing program.
Coupons are available on the company’s Web site at www.nicorgas.com and also are in November Energy Spotlight newsletter. Customers need only cut out the coupons and present them to the cashiers at check out on any of the following dates:
Mondays, December 5, 12 and 26
Tuesdays, December 6, 13 and 27
Wednesdays, December 7, 14 and 28
“We thank Jewel for partnering with Nicor Gas on such an important initiative. It provides a simple way for people to help their friends, family and neighbors,” said Julian Brown, manager of corporate contributions for Nicor Gas. “There are customers who do not qualify for government assistance, but due to a recent hardship such as a job loss or change in family status will need help paying their heating bills this winter and Nicor’s Sharing Program will be there for them,” said Brown.
The Sharing program is administered by the Salvation Army and is made up of contributions from Nicor customers and employees that are matched up to $175,000 annually by Nicor Gas. The program provides one-time grants up to $300 to help customers pay their natural gas bills. Eligible customers are those who currently earn up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level, and can include people who have fallen under difficult circumstances such as a job loss, changes in family conditions or other emergencies.
“Nicor is doing everything it can to help its customers through this winter’s heating season and the Sharing program is another venue customers in need can turn to,” said Brown. Over the past 20 years, Nicor Gas’ Sharing Program has provided nearly $12 million to help tens of thousands of its customers.
