Record Turnout Expected at Nicor's 8th Annual Volunteer Day

On May 15th, Nicor Employees and Community Partners Unite for a Day of Public Service Projects

May 11, 2004
Naperville, Ill. – More than 650 volunteers are expected to join together to volunteer on May 15  at 16 sites across northern Illinois as part of Nicor's 8th annual Volunteer Day in the Community.  Every year, Nicor dedicates the third Saturday in May as "Nicor Volunteer Day in the Community," where employees, their families and community members spend their day doing charitable tasks to benefit communities and non-profit groups.

"I'm proud of the dedication and teamwork of our employees that band together the third Saturday each May and especially with this year's record turnout," said Tom Fisher, Nicor Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.  "Volunteer Day in the Community exemplifies our year-round commitment to giving back to the communities where we work and live."

Volunteers will perform 16 projects in 14 communities, ranging from food sorting at area pantries, to beautification projects at various sites.  This year, there will be an emphasis on energy efficiency as senior citizens and others in need will receive energy-saving enhancements and learn how to conserve energy in their homes.
