October 29, 2002 NAPERVILLE, Ill., -- Nicor Inc. today announced that Russ Strobel has been named President. Formerly executive vice-president, general counsel and secretary of Nicor Inc., Strobel will be responsible for administrative, financial, regulatory, and legal affairs for Nicor and Nicor Gas.
"On behalf of the Board, I'm very excited and pleased to name Russ as President of Nicor and Nicor Gas," said Thomas L. Fisher, who remains Chairman and CEO. "Russ brings tremendous energy and vision to this position and will be instrumental in the growth and enduring strength of our companies."
Key officers under Strobel's direction are Kathy Halloran, chief financial officer, George Behrens, vice-president administration and treasurer, Jeff Metz, assistant vice president and controller, and Dan Dodge, senior vice president of Diversified Ventures. "I'm tremendously honored to be entrusted with this responsibility. I look forward to continuing to work with a very talented management team to deliver value to our customers and our shareholders," Strobel commented.
Strobel began his career with Nicor in December 2000. Prior to joining the company, he was a partner with the law firms of Altheimer & Gray, Jenner & Block, and Friedman & Koven. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University in 1974, and earned his juris doctor, magna cum laude in 1977 from the University of Illinois, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif.
Strobel is a member of the American, Illinois and Chicago Bar Associations, the latter of which he serves on the Judicial Evaluation Committee. He is a Director of the Film Center at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the USO of Illinois.
Also announced today, the Nicor Board of Directors elected Paul C. Gracey, Jr., as vice president, general counsel and secretary. Gracey will join Nicor next month and report to Strobel. He brings 17 years of legal experience, primarily in the energy field. Most recently, he was vice president and general counsel for Midwest Generation EME, LLC, an affiliate of Edison Mission Energy. Gracey, who resides in Wheaton, received a bachelor of business administration from the University of Michigan in 1981 and earned his juris doctor, cum laude, from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1985. He is a member of the California and Illinois Bar Associations.
